is Lin ALSO an earthbender, or just a metalbender? And if it’s just metal, then is metal just its own form of bending? And if it is, does that mean Korra has to master metalbending too?
No, as far as I’ve been led to believe metalbending is a sub-group off of earthbending, like lighting is to firebending, or bloodbending to waterbending so Korra only needs to learn earthbending (which she has) but she can learn metalbending if she wants to.
I never go to her for advice. NEVER.

I really started to appreciate Navi after encountering Fi in Skyward Sword. The ‘your dying’ sound ringing into the heavens, Fi’s signal is blaring for you to pick up, and when you do she tells you that you’re almost dead. NO SHIT SHERLOCK.
And she doesn’t just do it once to get the point across. Oh no. She does that the WHOLE GAME. So thinking back to Navi, I really actually appreciate her. Although she is always shouting at you in her high-pitched voice to listen, at least she told you semi-informative things (even though most of it you didn’t want to know) Fi treats you like your watching Dora the Explorer and continously patronizes you and says the most obvious things.
Still though, I understand your pain. I like to think Link after some time learned to simply stop listening himself. It is us who can’t zone her out.
